The Hotel Droog really interested me in terms of the way it has flipped the concept of a hotel on its head. This Hotel in the center of Amsterdam is primarily a retail store that sells the typical Droog chic products and accessories but also offers a hospitality service. The one room on offer (pictured above) is that hospitality experience. The Dutch seem to be extremely versatile and liberal in the way they re-write the paradigms of what is normal and what isn't. I guarantee that not once have you ever walked into a Premier Inn to be greeted by a high end retail store and escorted to your room via the multiple floors of retail outlets. Genius. There is no one overriding theme within this scheme. It's a very well organised modernist bohemian mess, but a mess that has a sincere feeling of home about it. It comes across as charming, endearing and honest if yet slightly on the pretentious side.

That's right October means Dutch Design Month here on Paper Plane Design. Expect liberal topics, lots of bicycles and anything daring and Dutch. The success of last month's themed issue sure shows promising signs for creating new international friends and opening our minds to a whole cultural spectrum of Design.
