Unbeknownst to myself I found out today, whilst searching through Sub Pop Records's catalogue, that Christian and Casey from Fleet Foxes's have a side project called Poor Moon. This particular song 'Holiday' is typically melodic with hints of that Gregorian chant sound that has become so synonymous with Fleet Foxes. The music makes you feel like you have been transported to a 60's TV commercial for an American Airline advertising holidays in Hawaii. The video is equally as tranquil, following a limber old gent who is taking a vacation in a mental institute and is very much enjoying a bit of a dance with the inmates. For myself I like these unannounced findings of superbious music, and tend to find that Sub Pop Records has a lot similar to offer. My only hope now is that you like it also.

Get ready for a hum along song brought to you from the master of Gangsta Rock, Hugo. It is an infectious song which will undoubtedly get your feet gently tapping and your head bopping back and forth.
The build up in the verse is slow paced which is enhanced by the repetitive humming and clapping matched with the soulful husky country voice of Hugo. Then the chorus comes in and blasts into a shout out loud sing along which makes you feel you are cruising through the streets in a beefed up muscle car with the twinkle of $99 stores sparkling all of the way towards the horizon. Evidently that is pretty much what the video is about, a drive through the sleazy and seductive underworld of his native Thailand. Really like this song it is a definite download must! By no means a new song but a catchy and brilliant one at that. You may have heard this recently (especially around the Christmas period) on the Nikon advert. The beat is infectious and the chorus will have you humming along in no time.
Ben Cooper is a bit of a genius and this song is by far the best on the album. If you are a fan of this I recommend you move onto Ben's previous project for the band Electric President. This is my musical treat of the week and hope you enjoy. Stay tuned in the next few days we have an exclusive involving fabrics from across the pond! What happens when you cross Biffy Clyro, Band of Horses and Belle and Sebastian together? You get Frightened Rabbit. Their infectious first single, Woodpile, off their new album The Pedestrian Verse is a real delight.
Starting off with a slow drumbeat and a gentle clatter of lead guitar it builds up to an anthem of a chorus full of Glaswegian spirit and attitude. They have been around for around 10 years now and I was first introduced to them in the 2nd series of the American Geek Spy show Chuck. Please listen and I implore you to press repeat again and again. T for tune! Following up from his hugely successful album Queen of Denmark, former Czars member John Grant has released the first single off his new album entitled Pale Green Ghosts. It is an eerie 6minute track with low pulsating electro sounds and the melancholic Rufus Wainwright like qualities to his vocals, makes for an interesting track and video. The video leaves a lot of questions unanswered and you are left wanting to know exactly what was in the boot of the car. Have a listen for yourself and see what you think, Queen of Denmark is an excellent album and well worth a purchase!
Pale Green Ghosts the Album is available to buy on the 11th March 2013. You can purchase the same titled single from Bella Union from the 5th of February or pre-order by clicking here It's hats off to Haim for winning the BBC Sound of 2013, but flicking through the shortlist at a sporadic pace, I came across a Dublin 5 piece which fit in perfectly with this month's green theme. There is a pulsating undertone thud of the drums with whimsical and atmospheric vocals which makes their single, The John Wayne, a pleasant treat for the ears. Very much reminiscent of the euphoric sounds of Band of Horses or Fleet Foxes. Their debut album 'absolute zero' is out later this year and promises a fruitful treasure trove of hits.
It's great to see some fresh talent, albeit the Dublin 5 formed over 5 years ago, getting media attention. Fingers crossed for these guys that they'll do well. Enjoy. So what is going on with HMV recently? Are they a music store or are they a library? The rows upon rows of CD's and DVD's suggest the latter. There was a situation recently where I wanted to find a CD and I chose HMV (not that there is much choice as this is the only surviving store left on the high-street) and was presented with an endless abyss of products. Some call it clutter, I call it an inconvenience. As a man, patience is not my most endearing quality, throw shopping into that mix and that recipe is not good. I want to be in and out in breakneck speed, acquiring my goods with precision and accuracy, no queue at the checkout and swiftly out of the store without being tempted by all of the 6 for 10 offers as I make my quick escape. HMV angers me. It angers me that they have no identity any more. A once well established British industry that has succumbed to throwing everything at the wall and hoping it sticks. The Dog and the gramophone is outdated but equally as iconic. The question is this... are HMV scared to move away from their heritage and create a new brand for themselves? Should the dog be a designer dog and the gramophone be replaced with an I-Pod? They need to do something to help themselves progress rather than stay stagnate. I have the answer to all of their problems. My inability to faff and ponder over a purchase requires me to be brutal and efficient. We can do anything with smart phones these days so why can't we use them to our (my) advantage? Augmented reality apps are not new. They are used within Google maps and tell you in live-time how far away you are from a destination. Why can't we produce an app that does this for sifting through all of the junk in HMV? HOW IT WORKS//1. With a 3G or Wi-fi connection impatient male #1 clicks on his HMV App. . 2. Using a product search for that specific store, the user finds the object they want to find. 3. If the product is out of stock then the user is told this straight away and saves 30mins of his precious life to do something new, like take up a new hobby and find the meaning of life (incidentally it's 42). 4. If it is available then the app kicks in with a tilt of the device 90degrees by the user. 5. The interface appears in live-time, through the video camera, and shows where and how far away the product of desire is. 6. You find the product, take it to a bearded cashier, and there you go. In a matter of 0.44 seconds in and out. No hassle, reduced blood pressure, and in an overall better mood.
