Ever heard of Pirate Folk? No nor had I until I came across this German/Canadian band that really pack a punch. Think Dropkick Murphys and classic Pogues with a swashbuckling twang. Fantastic song that will get your feet a tappin' and your swords a clashin'. Their album Guide Me Home is available at Amazon MP3 to purchase now.
"The Burkhardt Leitner stand invites visitors to explore its multifaceted constructive and decorative nuances." I recently came across this project and was inspired by its subtle complexity and patterns that work harmoniously together. The exhibition is a statement piece for Burkhardt Leitner who manufacture architectural systems. The exhibit was at the EuroShop 2011 in Dusseldorf and superbly represented the company's brand. The Interior is a play of contrasting forms that interlink and bond together. From the undulating suspended fins to the petal like forms on the grid wall structures, the space is a concoction that has a playful adult attitude to the way it has been designed. The consideration for detail and this harmonious bond is also transferred into the selection of the furnishings. The PLANK Myto Miura stool by Konstantin Grcic works perfectly with the constructiv pon consultation desks. Constructiv Pon (pictured above) is a connecting system made from tubes and magnetic push-fit connectors. It's basically a lightweight skeletal frame which is surprisingly sturdy and strong. These favorable qualities make it perfect for free-standing components within an exhibition environment. This elegant spectacle has kinetic features within it that add a sense of flow and manipulation to the interior. The upside down umbrellas have the names of all of the countries that the company has offices in, and these umbrellas rotate creating an interesting shadow effect around the space. Certain wall and overhanging features within the exhibition are back-lit. I really like the diffused glow you get with back-lit elements. In this case it looks like inter-connecting T5 or T4 fluorescent tube lights were placed behind a series of connecting acrylic pieces which have a frosted vinyl applied to them. Depending on the distance you have the lamps to the cladded surface will very much depend on the overall effect you get. You can clearly see in the image above the vertical strips of the tubes. This intense glow is known as a hot-spot. To reduce these hot-spots you could do one of two things: A. increase the distance the tubes are offset from the finished surface material or B. Make the vinyl frosting more opaque which will decrease the amount of light that travels through the surface creating that subtle diffused glow. This project is very impressive. It is not just solely an Interior. It is a visual identity of a brand. i get increasingly frustrated in companies that don't understand the importance of design and the effect it can have on people's understanding of their company values and ethos. To me this exhibition makes a point that they are professional, creative and have underlying tones of humor and eccentricity which goes a long way with customers. More companies need to invest in good design that communicates a message. Forget cost your image is invaluable!
